Jedi Path Academy Statement of Hospitality and Safety
Everyone should feel and be safe. Creating a welcoming, safe, supportive, inclusive, consent-based space for all peoples is just one of the necessary ways hospitality must manifest in today’s society so that all people everywhere may thrive in safety. It’s our responsibility to leave this world better than we inherited it through mindful, thoughtful, and heart-filled care and stewardship.
Jedi Path Academy respects and welcomes all persons regardless of color, ethnicity, age, ability, religion, size, class, perceived or actual sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.
We have an individual and shared responsibility to guard against behaviors that demean, threaten, or otherwise harm individuals. Because these actions not only harm individuals, they impact and harm our community as a whole. We will not tolerate prejudice and discrimination. Unsafe behaviors and words, including but not limited to racism, sexism, ageism, classism, transphobia, homophobia, xenophobia, ethnicism, sizeism, ableism, and other prejudicial and discriminatory behaviors will not be tolerated.
We insist on affirmative consent before touching anyone’s person or property. We will not tolerate harassment and abuse in online or offline spaces. Transgressions in the form of verbal, physical, and/or sexual harassment, abuse, and assault, as well as violations of consent, personal boundaries, trolling, or otherwise acting in bad faith are grounds for removal or banning from Jedi Path Academy spaces.
For discussion spaces, members are asked to not edit or delete comments after the fact. This deeply undermines the trust of your fellow posters if you go back and change what you said, especially during a debate. Moderators and admins will decide if something should be deleted or not. If you do go back in and edit, add ETA: a description of your edits (e.g. ETA: typos! or ETA: Sorry, hit enter before I was done posting!)
Any discussion or debate must put the emotional well-being of people before any kind of ideological debate. This goes double for people with privilege on the topic. We sometimes talk about intense issues and ask members to provide content warnings where appropriate. For example, writing "TW: sexual assault" before the body of a message and where applicable using markdown to hide the message contents from users who do not wish to engage with the content.
We insist on these respectful behaviors so that spaces remain safe spaces for all attendees. The Jedi Path Academy administration has broad discretion to remove harmful elements from community spaces.
